Initiated in late 2018, this project stems from a collaboration with the California-based start-up Grain Spark LLC. This speaker exemplifies the pinnacle of Italian design, synonymous with unrivaled quality and attention to detail.
From the outset, our vision was clear: to create a product that exudes excellence in every aspect. Working closely with the CEO, we embarked on the journey to develop a speaker that not only delivers impressive audio performance but also seamlessly integrates as a wireless charging dock station. Our goal was to merge the functionality of a Bluetooth speaker with the elegance of Mid Century Modern design, reflecting a perfect harmony of retro charm and contemporary technology.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic Mid Century Modern era, renowned for its revolutionary artistry in interior design, architecture, and graphics during the post-war period in the United States, we poured our passion into designing a speaker that pays homage to this aesthetic while incorporating cutting-edge functionality.
What sets this product apart is its ingenious concept—a removable QI charger that securely attaches to the speaker’s rear using powerful neodymium magnets. Meticulously engineered, this speaker features a rechargeable battery discreetly located at the bottom, which can be effortlessly recharged via a USB Type-C cable. Additionally, it boasts a unique feature: an upper slot where the QI charger is inserted, allowing smartphones to be placed on top for seamless contact charging.
The result is a truly wireless and portable speaker that ensures maximum versatility without compromising on convenience. When we embarked on the design process, we were captivated by the idea of encapsulating the essence of a Mid Century Modern credenza, an iconic piece of furniture from that era. This inspired us to incorporate distinctive elements such as inverted cone trunk legs, rounded corners, and a dual-faced front aesthetic. To further enhance its allure, we designed a laser-cut and folded black metal grille, elegantly concealing the speaker cone. Additionally, we integrated a vintage potentiometer on the side, reminiscent of classic studio mixers from the 1980s, seamlessly blending retro nostalgia with pre-digital analog technology.
Throughout the development journey, we relentlessly pursued the utmost in functionality, reliability, and, above all, feasibility. To exemplify our commitment to excellence, we carefully selected premium materials. The front panel boasts exquisite ash wood, while the alternating patterns of zebrawood and walnut form the body, each model offering a unique aesthetic.

With its innovative QI charging slot and seamless contact charging functionality, this speaker stands as a testament to our commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and technology.
